The November Election

Maybe its the history of fighting political factions in Plainfield. Or maybe its bad feelings in the aftermath of a spirited mayoral contest. Whatever the reason, I have heard that some local politicians are concerned that I am not supporting the Democratic ticket in the November election.

I am a Democrat, always have been and always will be. I am disappointed in the local primary election outcome. But that is water under the bridge now that the primary election is over. I am supporting the whole Democratic ticket from Governor Jon Corzine on down. That includes Mayor Robinson-Briggs.

More than ever, Plainfield needs all levels of government to work together for the good of the city. One example is the need for City Council and the Mayors office to work as partners to engage the community in creating a vision for our Downtown train station area and the whole rail corridor. There is no other way forward for Plainfield.

I am also a lifelong democrat, and I will vote for Corzine and then vote for the republican candidate for mayor in Plainfield. As a community the democtats have to earn our vote, not simply expect it!!!!

When are you or the mayor going to tackle the PMUA issue?

Supporting our democratic politicians just because they are democrats is unfortunate. I am a registered democrat, but did not vote for Corzine or Robinson-Briggs in the primaries. They don't deserve my vote and continue to prove this. I'm disappointed in politicians who go along, especially when those running haven't earned the privilege to continue in office.

Be careful when accusing elected officials of "going along". We certainly have some of those but there is a difference between going along blindly or for personal gain and cooperating for the greater good.

I am supporting the Democratic ticket because I think it is the right thing for me to do to help Plainfield. I need the Mayor's cooperation no matter who that person is. And there is no personal gain for me. I believe I can get re-elected with or without the Party's support.

Cory, you need the mayor's cooperation for what? First you assume she will cooperate. Why do you do that when this administration - the "I'll get back to you" adminstration, hasn't done so up to now.

Perhaps you don't need this mayor's cooperation - you need a cooperative mayor.

I respect your decision, but I don't understand it.

The right thing is to vote the Briggs/Green/Lesniack out of office!! They have and continue to rob the community of its assets, kill incentive, and offer no future for the city. The issue is whether the community, including yourself, can vote other than identity politics. I too am a democrat but would never give blind allegiance to a party. I am hopeful that you are more thoughtful in the voting booth. It is not as if the Plainfield Republican Party has not put forward creditable candidates over the years, and this year's candidate is not the exception. Plainfield's future does not lie with the status quo.
